What's the Best TV System for a Boat in Ireland

Vincent asks;

I own a boat which is based on Lough Derg on the river Shannon and as I am not technically minded I am looking for a television system that is simple to install and simple to use and which is not too expensive. I would be obliged if you could kindly offer suggestions as there is not much point in me ordering equipment from you if its not suitable or simple to install. Thanking you, Vincent Garty.

P.S. I bought a portable satellite dish and receiver in Lidl 4-5 years ago which I opened briefly, had a look at and which is still sitting in its case on the boat (I have a few friends in a similar position in not being technically minded and avoiding the job of locating satellites every time you wish to watch TV)

Our answer;

So not a huge fan of Satellite systems for boats.

Channels possible to get

UK Channels?

  • For this you would require a satellite system, and satellite systems on boats are not a great idea
  • why? because everytime you move the boat (even by 1 degree) you will have to realign the dish
  • Summary: Not really an Option

IRISH Channels?

  • Clearly you are best to go for the new Saorview Digital system
  • Channels: RTE 1, 2(HD), TV3, TG4, 3e & RTE News

COMMENT

  • I have put a * next to what I think would be best
  • Most choices are pretty clear
    • bracket is the big issue
    • as what to attach pole to?
    • can you drill holes in a boat?
  • Telescopic pole is cool and handy
