USES of HDMI Over CAT6 Extender
- These HDMI over CAT6 extenders can ONLY be used in the following scenarios
- Type of Cabling
- We have tested with different type of cables and a minimum of CAT6 UTP is the type that should be used
- The maximum length these will work with is 20m
- Using our optional pre-terminated CAT6 cable can make running the cable more tricky but still easier than running a 20m HDMI cable
- You could terminate your own cable but it MUST BE AT LEAST CAT6 at a minimum and use proper CAT6 RJ45s
- Using lesser spec cabling (Even CAT5e), extending the run length or using FTP (Shielded cable) will result in picture degradation
- These HDMI over CAT6 extenders operate on a point to point basis and should NOT be run through a network switch
- Physical Limitations
- The physical dimensions of these HDMI extenders mean that they won't be suitable for every job
- These must be plugged in directly to the receiver and TV and no joiners / adapters should be used
- This means that if the orientation of the HDMI port on your TV is not horizontal with no obstructions, you can't use these
- Also, the same will obviously apply to your set top box and also you need to have at least 2 x 1 inches free at the back of TV / set top box
- Interchanging Extenders?
- These HDMI over CAT6 extenders are NOT interchangeable
- By that we mean, there is a dedicated transmitter (Tx) and a dedicated receiver (Rx) unit
- The Tx unit must be plugged in directly to your set top box (No joiners / adapters / wall plates etc..)
- The Rx unit must be plugged in directly to your TV (No joiners / adapters / wall plates etc..)
- Resolution
- These HDMI extenders support up to full HD
- In our tests, setting the set top box to 1080i achieved best results on our testing TVs but yours may be different
- These actually work really well in the correct scenarios but will not be suitable for everyone
ADVANTAGES of HDMI Over CAT6 Extender
- These HDMI extenders do not require an external power source
- Very easy to install - Just plug & play
DISADVANTAGES of HDMI Over CAT6 Extender
- These HDMI over CAT6 extenders work well but their use has limitations which we have outlined above
- It does not support IR (Infra Red) - You can't change channels remotely etc..
- Does not work with PC/Laptop
- These do not support 4K and will not work with Sky Q for example
