Overview & Install of the Xoro HRT 7520 DTT Receiver

Complete users guide for the Xoro HRT 7520 HD Digital TV Receiver. This manual contains detailed instructions and video guides on the receivers installation & it's various features.

How to install a Xoro HRT 7520 DTT Receiver  

  • Unpack the box: 
    • Xoro HD DTT receiver
    • Remote control & Batteries
    • User Manual (in English)
  • Push the lead from the UHF aerial into the 'RF IN' plug
  • Connect using either:
    • A scart lead from the HRT 7520 to the TV
    • or a HDMI lead if you have one and a HD TV
  • Plug in the power lead
  • After 5-6 seconds the box will come on and will display the "Installation Guide" menu 


Scanning in the Irish Channels on the Xoro HRT 7520 Receiver 

  • When the box is connected for the first time it will automatically boot up on the Installation menu.
  • Language by default is set to: English
  • The country can be left as: 'France'
  • Press 'OK'-> Kicks off an automatic search
  • This take about 3-4 minutes
    • if the receiver picks up signal from more than one transmitter it will only keep the signal from the strongest transmitter - cool feature

How to Sort & Delete Channels on the Xoro HRT 7520 Digital TV Receiver 

  1. Press the menu button
  2. Select the 'Program' Menu
  3. Select the 'Program Edit' option 
    • Enter password '000000'
  4. Select colour coded keys on the remote that match the required function e.g.:
    • 'Red' button to move a channel
    • 'Blue' button to delete a channel
  5. When you have finished sorting the channels
    • Press 'Exit' button

How to use the EPG on the Xoro HRT 7520 DTT Receiver 

This DTT receiver comes with a full 7 Day EPG which seems to work pretty well

  • Press the 'EPG' button on the remote control
  • It lists the EPG one channel at a time
  • Your can scroll through channels or scroll up to 7 days forward (using arrow keys)
  • Scroll over the the desired program
  • Information displayed includes:
    • Name of TV programme
    • Start and Finish Time
    • Programme synopsis

Info Button

  • Press the Info button once
    • Get the programme name and runing time
  • Press the Info button twice
    • Get the programme synopsis
  • Works for Now and Next programmes

How to use the Teletext & Subtitle options

SUBTITLES

By default the subtitles are turned off.

To turn on the subtitles

  • Press Button marked 'Subtitle'
  • Sroll down to 'English Option'
  • Press 'ok'
  • if you change channels the subtitles will default back to off
  • Note it is possible from the main Menu to change the defualt so that if the subtitles are turned on for a certain channel they will stay on

TELETEXT

  • Press the 'TTX' button
  • Note: it will work well when tested on Standard definition channels 
    • e.g. RTE1, but not at all when tested on RTE2 HD.

How to format a Hard Drive on the DTT Receiver

  • Connect the Hard Drive to the Xoro Digital Terrestrial TV Receiver
  • Press the Menu button
  • Select the USB Menu
  • Select the 'PVR configure' option
  • Select the 'Format' option
    • Please Wait
    • Fat32 (takes 15 seconds or so)
  • Press 'OK'
    • Confirm you wish to Proceed ?
  • Press 'OK' and it takes about 30 seconds

The Hard drive is now formatted to FAT32

 

How to Use the PVR recording Facilities

There is some good PVR Facilities on this Digital Terrestrial TV receiver.

The first step is to add either a USB key or a Hard drive (it can handle either FAT32 or NTFS).

The main features outlined in the video below is:

  • How to mark a future TV programme for recording using the EPG function
  • How to record the current programme using the record button
  • How to Pause Live TV
  • How to playback what you have recorded

 

How to Use the Media Player on the DTT Receiver

This is probably the single best feature on this already decent DTT receiver

Due to its ease of use and the sheer range of files it can handle.

To access the media player - press the button under the 'USB' writing on the remote control

PHOTOS

  • All the normal photo and image file types are handled
  • allows you view as a slide show & rotate pictures.

MUSIC

  • Listen to MP3 & .wma files
  • allows you select song from a screen

MOVIES

  • Supports both SD & High Definition Films & TV programmes
  • Supports both FAT32 & NTFS

TV RECORDINGS

  • Play back recordings made on the Digital Terrestrial Receiver

How to Upgrade Firmware on the Xoro 7520

Upgrading the Firmware

  • Download the firmware under the downloads tab
  • Copy it to a USB memory stick
  • Insert the momeory stick into the 7520 DTT Receiver
  • Select menu on the remote
  • Arrow over to System
  • Select Software upgrade
  • Select USB Upgrade
  • Select the .bin file
  • Press 'OK'
  • Takes about 45 seconds 0%-42%-50%-100%

Do Factory Reset before scanning for the Irish channels again

Once the firmware is upgraded, it is best to do a factory reset (otherwise RTE+1 will be in position #1 on the list)
