USES of 4K HDMI Over CAT6 Extender
This is a product that has an increasing market driven by a number of factors
- Max Length: The maximum run you have with a HDMI lead is normally 20m where this unit allows you achieve 50m with 4K x 2K resolution
- Customise: It is not possible to alter the length of a 4K HDMI lead but CAT5e / CAT6 cables can easily be cut to the required length in the field with basic RJ45 connectors, crimping tool & a roll of CAT5e / CAT6 cable
- Pre-Cabled: Often customers wish to put their 4K satellite receiver in the a corner unit to feed a flat screen TV hanging over the fire place. Such a set up may have CAT5e / CAT6 cables pre-wired or it may be possible to pull them through.
What Will I Also Possibly Need?
- You will also clearly need;
- Ethernet Cables (CAT5e /CAT6 cables terminated with RJ45s)
- 4K HDMI Cables (To connect to satellite receiver on one end and TV on the other end)
ADVANTAGES of 4K HDMI Over CAT6 Extender
- This unit works a treat - does exactly what it says on the tin
- Very easy to install - just plug & play
- Allows you cut the cable to exactly the required length
- Works over a 60m run length
- Supports up to 4K picture resolutions
- This model supports IR for changing channels remotely
- Unlike other models of the HDMI over CAT5 Extender which require two CAT5e/CAT6 cables to be run, this model only requires a single CAT5e/CAT6 cable
- Supports HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 so will work with the likes of Sky Q
- Can also be used in cascade mode (See secondary images)
DISADVANTAGES of 4K HDMI Over CAT6 Extender
- Additional cost for CAT6 cables and 4K HDMI leads is involved
- More expensive than traditional 1080p HDMI extenders but supports 4K output resolution
- CAT5 cable will not be good enough, need to use CAT5e or CAT6 at a minimum
Note: Current model is slightly different to video but same general idea with higher specs
