Jack as of today 10/3/11) there are no other Official Saorview approved Boxes on the market. There are many reasons for this but the main ones are the usual suspects. Money & the Irish inability to organise a nun-shoot in a convent.

The money issue is basically that it costs around 20k to get your Saorview Box approved by the necessary authorities. It would seem that these manufacturers might be reluctant pump that sort of money into the irish market which as you know is a small market compared to other nations. That added together with R & D costs, Marketing etc, don't make it an overly attractive proposition.

The other main reason is basically that it would seem, at least to me that the relevant authorities for Saorview, may not have totally had their eye on the ball here and really should have pushed to get more manufacturers on board before the official launch in May 2011.

There are other manufacturers working on their official saorview boxes at the moment including the well known company Triax but we are unsure when this will come to market. Hopefully the will release not just a basic bog standard saroview receiver like the walker model, but ones that are combo boxes and also have PVR features and maybe even media players built in. We will just have to see.

In the meantime, we do offer Digital TV Compatible boxes that can receive the Saorview audio and Video feed and are HD compatible. The downside of these is that they don't have Mheg5 for receiving digital teletext (affects teletext on HD channels, currently RTE2 HD) and also over the air updates. But they are significantly cheaper than the official saorview boxes especially when you consider that they come with PVR features so you can pause, rewind and record TV programmes and also have media players built in so you want watch your films (HD and SD) and listen to your music collection with the addition of an external hard drive.
