Overview

Complete users guide for the Triax TR110 Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) receiver.

What is DTT ?

Digital Terrestrial Tv (DTT) is a the new MPEG4 digital transmission format

It is due to replace analogue, (which is due to be turned off by 2012).

When is it available ?

Right now !

DTT Broadcast in test mode from all main Transmitters in Ireland since June 2009

RTENL have the right to turn off the transmission at anytime.

In reality the signal is on virtually constantly.

Will I need a new Aerial ?

Maybe or maybe not.

DTT only uses the UHF spectrum

The aerial installations are generally much simpler than with an analogue aerial systems.

If you already have a Grid or Wide Band UHF aerial there will be no need change your aerial.

Additional free-to-air and pay-per-views will expected to become available later

How to distribute signal to multiple Rooms

FEATURE: A neat feature of the TR110 is that it allows both

  • Digital ouptput from the receiver (whatever box is set to)
  • and Analogue channels coming from the aerial  (RTE1, 2, TV3 & TG4)

to be combined into a single feed.

How it works:

  • On the back of the TR110 receiver there are 4 RF connectors
    • 'ANT IN' - Feed in lead coming from TV aerial
    • 'RF OUT' - Output from DTT box (set by default to CH36)
    • 'ANT OUT' - Loop thru' for Analouge aerial channels
    • 'RF IN' - Allows Irish analogue channels to be feed back through receiver
  • Connect the lead coming from the aerial into the 'ANT IN' connector
  • Connect the RF lead that is going to feed the other room(s) to the 'RF OUT'
    • this will allow the other room to receive whatever channels the DTT box is set to e.g. the RTE News channel
  • Use the short RF cable to connect the 'ANT OUT' to the 'RF IN' port
  • Now the RF lead going to the other rooms will also contain
    • whatever analogue channels were coming in from the Aerial e.g.
    • RTE 1,2 TV3 and TG4 along with the RTE News channel

How to Change the RF Channel

  1. Press 'Menu' button
  2. Scroll down and select 'System Setup' option
  3. Select ‘TV system'
  4. See 'RF Channel:' <36>
    • Set channel to 21-36
  5. Save changes

COMMENT:

The design of the outputs on the TR110 is a little strange.

Rather than simply combining the signal from the analogue aerial and DTT together

into a single output it is necessary to manually combine the feeds using an RF Lead.

This said it works very well.
