Uses of Cable Glands
- Used to achieve a water and dust proof seal around a cable going into a junction box
- Especially useful when being used outdoors
Advantages of Cable Glands
- Gives a better dust and waterproof seal than that offered by rubber bungs
- Easy to Install
- Relatively inexpenisve
Disadvantages of Cable Glands
- Will not work with all Junction boxes
- Sometimes a cable gland which is ideally sized for a junction box, will be too large to tighten in on the cable e.g. on CAT5 cable
- It is cheaper, easier and more flexible to use the rubber bungs which come with junction boxes
