USES of Compression F Connectors
- Normally only used on commercial jobs or high specification houses:
- Where a communal satellite dish is feeding a multi-switch and then on to a number of apartments
- On commercial jobs where a large number of cables are terminating and must be be connected at a single location
- In locations where the cable feeding a satellite box might be interfered with e.g. in a pub or hotel
ADVANTAGES of Compression F Connectors
- They securely lock onto the cable and can only be removed by cutting them off
- Forms a waterproof connection
- They achieve a lower level of signal loss than a coaxial plug or twist on F connector
- They are a quick and easy connector to install
- Less likely to plug out by mistake than a coaxial plug and joiner
- Much nicer to work with than either a coaxial plug or a twist on F connector
- They look neater and more professional than a twist on F connector
- Similar in quality to Cablecon compression F connectors but cost much less
DISADVANTAGES of Compression F Connectors
- Big disadvantage is their cost - they are far more expensive than standard f-connectors
- They require a special compression tool to fit the connector
- For many types of equipment, coaxial rather than f-type connectors are the normal
- F type distribution boxes are normally 25% more expensive than coaxial distribution systems
