Uses of Outdoor CAT6 Cables
- Used primarily in CCTV applications where high speed networks are used with IP cameras
- Could also be used outdoors to connect adjacent buildings with gigabit networks
Advantages of Outdoor CAT6 Cables
- They are low cost
- Their long length cover a very large CAT6 run
- Are compatible with gigabit networks
- Are backward compatible with older networks
- Pre-terminated so you don't have to have or use an RJ45 crimping tool, so saves on cost and time
Disadvantages of Outdoor CAT6 Cables
- May be too long for some jobs, might need to cut but that kid of defeats the purpose of buying a pre-terminated cable
- CAT6 cables are slightly more expensive than CAT5 cables
- Outdoor CAT6 cables are slightly more expensive than indoor CAT6 due to the sheath having extra protection from the weather
- In pure material terms, unterminated CAT6 cable is cheaper then buying pre-terminated cables
- Because the CAT6 cable is pre-terminated, it is not as easy to run though ducting for example
