ADVANTAGES of USB Over Ethernet Adapter / Extender
- Can extend the working range of a USB cable up to 50m
- Normal working range of USB 2.0 cables is 5m & USB 3.0 is 3m, so the advantages are clear
- It can operate at USB 2.0 specs at shorter distances up to 12Mbps
DISADVANTAGES of USB Over Ethernet Adapter / Extender
- It operates over longer distances using USB specification 1.1, which has a max transfer rate of 1.5Mbps
- It is a point to point USB over CAT5 adapter and must be run directly
- It cannot operate in conjunction with a router or network switch
- Over longer (10m to 20m) distances, only keyboards and mice usually work
