Is there a Digital Terrestrial Receiver that can handle both Saorview & Freeview

Ciaran asks;

Hi, I want to buy a set top box to receive hd digital tv channels from both Freeview AND Saorview aerials. As I live close to border I can receive over-spill digital signals from NI Is there a set top box which can receive both.

Our answer;

this is definitely possible.

Which Receiver

The Digital TV Receiver is ideal as it is

High Definition

Can handle MPEG2 & MPEG4 definition

it is PVR ready just a Hard Drive or USB stick and you can record, pause & rewind live TV

& It has a built in Media Player

How will the channels be ordered

If you have a combined aerial feed from both Freeview and Saorview you can order the channels mixing and matching the Irish & UK channels on a single channels list e.g. RTE 1, RTE2, TV3, BBC 1, BBC2, TG4 ......

How about the Aerials.

  • This is the tricky part. You need to spec out:
  • The frequency being using for the saorview transmitter
    • which UHF aerial best suits this
  • the frequency being used for the freeview transmitter
    • which UHF aerial best suits this

You need to know this information to be sure you will correctly select your TV aerials.

How to combine the aerials

This is the key part. Currently we stock 2 UHF / UHF diplexers which suits certain areas but not others
